2nd Annual Heath Gordon Scholarship Benefit Proves a Big Success

CHESTER, VERMONT - The second annual Heath Gordon Scholarship Benefit, held last weekend at the American Legion in Chester, Vermont, turned out to be a shining success after $5,100 was raised in Heath's honor, to be given to a deserving Green Mountain Union High School senior or alumni pursuing a college degree in music or the arts.

It was a fantastic night of music, as up-and-coming pop-country singer Holly May and then Fairfax, Vermont-native Troy Millette started the show, before long time local rockers VEHICLE hit the stage for the first show of the "original six" in over 20 years!

Featuring Roy Brown on lead vocals, Bernie Moss on lead guitar, Keith McKane on guitars and keys, Paul Bocchiaro on keys and sax, Jim Murphy on bass and horns and Gary Spaulding on drums, the band put on a great show for an enthusiastic crowd that danced the night away! Neil Moxham of MoXom Creative Audio Design and Rob Bridge of Helmet Studio also provided stellar sound and lighting for the event.

Organizer Sam Gordon also provided the following information for this article:

"There are many people to thank for the success of this event, including all of the great folks (225+) that attended. This event is the backbone of our fundraising efforts and we appreciate everyone for coming out to support us.

"We would also like to thank everyone who donated their time and auction items for the event, as well as all the local individuals and business owners for their generosity including Louanne Metcalf, Mo’s Fudge Factor, Hannah Kingsbury, Tracy Metcalf, Greg Pajala, Shannon Parker, Jack Dowd Studios, Bromley Mountain, Sarah Yake, Stratton Adventures, Lew Watters, Bonnies Bundles, Donna Jarvis, Sue Gordon, Salty Sista, Gail Stewart, GM, TD Bank, Erskine’s, Chester Hardware, Misty Valley Bookstore, Holly May, Eclipz Salon, Scott Bemis, Sage Jewelry, Meditrina, Sama Yoga, Jiffy Mart, chandler4corners, Willow Farm, Running Bear Campground, Naomi’s Cose Bella, Claremont Country Club, Jiffy Mart, Chester Acupuncture and the Edgar May Recreational Center.

"We also want to thank our musicians: Holly May and Troy Millette, as well as Roy Brown, Bernie Moss, Keith McKane, Paul Bocchiaro, Jim Murphy and Gary Spaulding - or as you know them - VEHICLE! Then of course, holding down all the production and sound for the night was Neil Moxham and Rob Bridge.

"A special thanks to Roy Brown, who not only fronted VEHICLE, but also coordinated all the great music provided throughout the night. We also want to thank Ed Peterson for his help coordinating the venue and the American Legion for allowing us to again, use of their great hall.

"Another special thanks to thank Sarah Yake and Hannah Monier for allowing us to use Chester's Salon 2000 as our unofficial headquarters in town and thanks to Eitor Donna Allen at the Vermont Journal/Bellows Falls Shopper, Editor Cynthia Prairie of the Chester Telegraph and Publisher Joe Milliken of the music/entertainment website Standing Room Only.

"Every dollar received for this annual event is important to us, but we would also like to take a moment and thank a few of the business owners who gave us some large donations: Record Concrete of Chester, DP Industries of Vassalboro, Maine and Spence Dental of Claremont, New Hampshire.

"Also a special thanks to Rick Bliss and Bliss Farms for on New Year's Eve, 2014, Rick offered to match all donations up to $500 until the clock struck 12. So, all day long we conducted a Facebook fundraising drive to see if we could could hit 500 and take full advantage of Rick’s offer. Not only did we match the 500, we raised quite a bit more. It was a great way to end our year and thanks so much, Rick! Rick also very generously donated a great auction item — 100 gallons of heating oil.

"Last, but certainly not least, we want to thank the Heath Gordon Scholarship Board members: Tracy Metcalf, Scott Bemis, John Yake, Roy Brown and Bryan Ballinger. Also, special thanks to my Mom - Sue Gordon - for all her help... she does too much to list it all here. If we forgot anyone, I truly apologize... Thanks to all!"

(Editor's Note: What an inspiring event this was to take part in... I never had the pleasure of meeting this man, musician and artist, Heath Gordon, but it was surely easy to see how much he was admired by all the love and music shared on this night. Standing Room Only was proud to play a small part and we look forward to next year's event!
