CHESTER, VERMONT – On Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. the American Legion Post 67 in Chester, Vermont will host the second annual Heath Gordon Scholarship Fund benefit, including a music lineup featuring country-pop performer Holly May, the acoustic pop-rock of Troy Millette and the headliner, a reunion show of local rock favorites Vehicle – featuring a lineup that has not performed together in some 20 years.

The scholarship fund was created to honor the life of Chester resident, artist and musician Heath Gordon, a multi-talented man who abruptly passed away at the age of 43. A scholarship is now given each year in his honor, to a Green Mountain Union High School student interested in pursuing a college degree in art or music.

“As an artist Heath worked in many mediums and as a musician, played guitar, sax, harmonica and sang as well,” Heath’s brother Sam Gordon said in a recent Standing Room Only interview. “Through the years Heath played in a number of local rock bands here in Vermont, as well as in some of his travels throughout the country.”

Opening the show will be Holly May, an up-and-coming country-pop singer/songwriter/guitarist who in a relatively short period of time, has posted a Youtube video (titled “Go Big or Go Home”) with over a million views, signed a recording contract and recently toured the UK with country-pop star Katie Armiger. Fairfax, Vermont-native Troy Millette is a talented singer/songwriter and former vocalist of the acoustic-pop outfit With Love, Anonymous and is currently working on his solo debut EP release.

The headliner is longtime local favorite Vehicle, featuring a “Classic 6” lineup that has not performed together in over 20 years and featuring Roy Brown on lead vocals, Bernie Moss on lead guitar, Keith McKane on guitars and keys, Paul Bocchiaro on keys and sax, Jim Murphy on bass and Gary Spaulding on drums. Neil Moxham and Rob Bridge will also be providing sound and lighting for the event.

"It's a great honor to be back onstage with my past band mates for such a great cause...and rehearsals have been great," Roy Brown told Standing Room Only. "We really had a great local following back in the day and I'd like to thank everyone that's supported a Vehicle or local charity event, past and present. The band is really looking forward to rocking the house!"

Last year, the first scholarship award was given to Green Mountain Union High School senior Cheyenne Prescott, who is currently attending the prestigious Berklee College of music in Boston. Cheyenne was awarded 5,000 and this year, the goal is to award a student $10,000.

“In just our second year, we have received tremendous support from Chester and the surrounding area,” Gordon said. “People have really taken our cause to heart and have been extremely generous. We have many people to thank for our success, including folks that donate online and are on our Facebook page, people that come to our fundraising event and make auction donations or offer their precious time... and now we have some local business folks making some large donations as well.

“Although we are very happy with our initial success, we have every intention of growing this scholarship fund bigger and better every year. We want to help college become a reality for more and more students, as well as taking bigger and bigger chunks out of their tuition, so they aren't swallowed up in debt when they graduate.”

The scholarship event will feature live and silent auctions, a 50/50 raffle and many other items will be available including handmade jewelry, art, gift certificates, gift baskets and much more. Admission is $10 at the door and of course, all proceeds will go to the Heath Gordon Scholarship Fund to support future Green Mountain Union High School art and music students.
