Enjoying photography for a decade, Hynes started out by photographing the outdoors and animals for fun. “I was having empty nest syndrome so I bought a camera on a whim," Hynes said in a recent interview. "This brought me to the farms and fields, beautiful sunsets and then, local events.”

Hynes received encouragement and gained confidence through her various photog friends and admiring the work of other artists. “Linda Eastman McCartney is my favorite photographer. She was not only a gifted musician, but a talented photographer that extended way beyond shooting photos of the Beatles.

“As I gained experience, I learned a lot from my photographer friends about angles, colors, lighting, symmetry, and depth of field. But perhaps more importantly, I was also encouraged to shoot every day, to enjoy my camera and follow my dream! Photography went from being my hobby, to becoming my passion.”

This would all lead to Gail launching her own photography business some eight years ago. “I’ve been at it for nearly ten years now and I provide photos for weddings, senior pictures, events and family functions... my specialty is shooting landscapes, nature and animals.”

Gail’s business would continue to grow over the years, leading to the recent opening of her own photography studio space, just off The Square in Bellows Falls. “I had gone to visit Chris Sherwin of Sherwin Art Glass and noticed the beautiful north lighting beaming through a vacant studio. At the time my friend, Shelley Dodge, was battling cancer and we started creating the new studio space together, picking out colors, flooring and the studio lighting. It turned into our special project and a focus on the positive, and I could not have done it all without her help.”

Although Shelley would eventually lose her battle, Gail has dedicated her new studio to her friend’s memory. “Although she lost her battle in June, my studio is dedicated to Shelley and the reality of always following my dreams. This past week saw the studio grand opening and my dream was truly realized!”

Along with her own work, Hynes also displays the photography of local artists Ozzee Haskell and Tammy Kendall. She also exhibits at local craft shows and plans to display photos at the “Third Friday Art Walks” through the Bellows Falls Downtown Development Alliance.

“I will be launching a new website soon, my studio is open by appointment for holiday and family portrait sessions, and I am booking into 2020 for weddings and other events.” To learn more about Gail Hynes Photography or to book an appointment, please call 603.543.7268 or visit www.facebook.com/Gail-Hynes-Photography-LLC.
