A freelance writer, editor and music journalist since 2000, Joe Milliken (aka "The Jock Of Rock") is originally from Boston, grew up in North Walpole, New Hampshire and now resides in Bellows Falls, Vermont with his wife, Kelly, son Nate and daughter Erin.

The Jock of Rock’s previous writing experiences include stints as Sports Editor and then Co-Editor at The Message for the Week in Chester, Vermont and Co-Editor of The Green Mountain Outlook in Bellows Falls. Joe currently contributes articles to national music magazines Goldmine and The Alternate Root, as well as business articles to The Monadnock Shopper News in Keene, New Hampshire.

Milliken also heads JEM Freelance Writing, ( creating freelance articles, as well as press releases and Web site content for small businesses and entrepreneurs. He is currently editing a series of mystery novels, as well as writing his first book, a biography about the late great Benjamin Orr, vocalist and bassist of The Cars. (Who just so happened to call Southern Vermont his home during the last decade of his life)

Recently, after writing for others for over a decade, The Jock Of Rock decided it was time to fly in a new direction and the result is the creation of Standing Room Only, a music, arts and dining/food Web site dedicated to supporting, promoting and reporting all genres of local music, the arts, theatre and dining throughout Northern New England and beyond.

"I don't see a lot of sites out there, if any, that are mostly localized, but also mix in regional and national news as well. I have a pretty good feel for the local scene in my area - Southern Vermont and New Hampshire - but I also enjoy writing about and promoting regional and national subjects as well, especially those hidden gems that I enjoy, but not many others may know about. For me, that is a win-win situation for all involved.”

Milliken plans to offer a unique blend of local, regional and national flavors including feature articles and profiles, interviews, event previews, reviews and multiple weekly columns all revolving around music, the arts, theatre and food/dining. He is also assembling a diverse mix of writers who will contribute from a variety of locations near and far, under an umbrella of music genres and artistic avenues.

"I have been piling up all these ideas for a while now and thinking 'if only I had my own music Web site’… and now this is my opportunity to put these ideas into action and create my own media vision. However, make no mistake, we also need the input of our readership because we want to write about those subjects you are interested in, so you'll keep coming back to our site for more! So please, send us your ideas and information and we will do everything possible to publish on our Web site and Facebook page, as many articles, profiles, news, reviews and photos as possible.”

Milliken also plans to become a public relations machine for all Standing Room Only advertisers by complimenting their advertisements with additional stories and announcements. "This will only enhance the ads and increase the client's overall visibility. I want to go the extra mile for all our advertisers and supporters because without them, there is no Web site.

“I will pour my heart and soul into this adventure because it is a labor of love. Our number one goal is to become a reliable, go-to source for all things music, arts and food throughout Northern New England and beyond.

“Thank you for your continued interest and support and welcome aboard!”
